Still Life

Veils of fog seem to whisper
As they dance on the glassine water.
The reeds are still.
In reverence perhaps.
The sky is bleeding.
It's gums trickle scarlet,
Threading out over the waters
Like ripples of laser light.

I wish you were here.
What I see all around me
Is beauty, power, and peace.
It is you that should share it.
You that should be at my side.

I wish you were here,
Quiet as this changing moment,
Only our breath
Mingling with the rising mist.
Only our hearts
To be heard with the kiss
Of the waters licking the shore.

The sky is salmon now.
The fog looks like white neon.
And I can just see a sliver,
A tiny crescent of tomorrow.

Now, the day has begun
And the birthing moment has passed.
I wish you were here
To know what I felt,
What I saw all around me.
But you weren't.
So I painted it for you.
